What is Giclee?

The term Giclee refers to a high-resolution, archival quality inkjet print.

How do you get the image on Canvas?

Our professional inkjet printer uses a roll of canvas that was created explicitly for inkjet printing. The canvas has an ink-receptive coating that allows the printer to print on the surface.

What is a Giclee coating?

Giclee coating is a liquid coating that is applied to the printed image to seal and protect the image. Good coatings will not crack or yellow. Coating is requred on canvas prints before they can be stretched onto the wooden stretcher bars.

What does Archival quality mean?

Archival quality means the image will not fade or color shift for a very long time, usually 100 years or more.

Why should I use Bayside Digital for my large format printing needs?

Bayside Digital was born from the frustration of a fine art photographer who repeatedly sent images out for large format printing and was unhappy with the results. Fine art giclee printing is expensive and it is critical that the images are not oversaturated, color shifted or just re-sized incorrectly. What is Web Hosting and do I need that?

At it's simplest level, a web site is a set of files on a computer. If the web site is to be found by a web browser (Internet Explorer, FireFox, Chrome, etc) then those pages must be "served" by a web host. The Web Hosting provider is the company that makes your pages available on the web. Unless your website is only to be used inside your own company, yes you need a Web Hosting provider. Providers charge a monthly fee to serve your pages. We will set you up with a web hosting provider if you need help in that area or we can host it for you for a monthly fee as defined on our pricing page.

What is HTML/CSS?

HTML is a "markup" language use to build basic web pages. HTML itself is not dynamic, but can be combined with JavaScript to create some dynamic behaviors like a simple slideshow or images that change when the user mouses over them. We will include basic JavaScript components in your HTML website but advanced custom JavaScript will incur an additional charge.

What is PHP?

PHP is a more advanced language for building web pages. PHP pages are compiled on the server and served to the browser as HTML. During that compilation step, the page incorporates complex logic that makes sites do more than just show static pages. Most ecommerce shopping carts and web hosting providers support PHP.

What is JSP/Java/Spring?

Java is a programming language that can be used to create complex computer programs. Java can be used to create fully featured web-based applications that execute within the confines of an application server. The web hosting needs of a Java application are different than that of a HTML or PHP website. Spring is a framework that is used with Java applications to simplify development of the server-side portion of the web application. JSP is a Java-like language that is used for the client side of the web application (the actual web pages). Many large scale enterprise web-based business applications are written with Java/Spring.

What is JavaScript/Ajax?

Modern highly-dynamic websites use a combination of JavaScript and HTML to create asynchronous calls to the web server. This asynchronous behavior is called Ajax.

What if I don't like the web designs you create?

The goal of design iterations is to work together to find a design that you like so it would be highly unlikely that we can't get it right together. If you're still not satisifed during the design phase all fees are refundable. Once the site is built and matches the agreed upon design, and works without error the site is considered delivered as promised and the full fees are non-refundable.
