2. You have the option of leaving your photos as they are
Tip: You may bundle them by themes, such as family trip, office party, birthday celebration and so on. This will allow us to make custom folders for you on a DVD or External Hard Drive. We would use the titles on individual bundles to create the corresponding digital file.
If they are not prepared, then there would be additional fee associated with pre-digitizing, such as taking them off the albums, as of today it's $20 per album to take off the photos. If you have any question, simply contact us.
Q: Do you scan photo albums?
A: We can also scan your prints in photo albums. There is a handling fee of .20 cents per photo to remove them from the photo albums. Note: we don't put the photos back in the albums.
We assume those photos don't have glue at the back, as they would damage our sensitive professional scanners. $25 per album flat fee if you like us to take off the photos from your albums.
When shipping your boxes and albums of photo, go to the nearest USPS, UPS or Fedex store and use their sturdy shipping boxes. You would need to provide us with the tracking number. Email us with the filled out form attached, as well as confirm you have read our legal term of service signed and included. It's best to contact us first!
Q: Image scanning: which file format is best?
JPEG is for website and social media use:
Jpegs are compressed files, which means they are smaller and will load faster for electronic uses, like the internet, email, etc. So if you are only going to use your photos for a website, blog and sharing, then use .jpeg. We offer 300 dpi and 600 dpi.
TIFs are the highest quality and resolution scan, and the biggest file size:
If you plan on using your photos, artwork in print (like in a book, for memorials or to hang on the wall), our recommendation is to scan your originals as .tif files (or .tiff format). They are uncompressed, which means you get to keep all your pretty pixels and won’t have to see artifacts (blocky or jagged edges) in your printed photos.
Tiff format is not suitable for E-mail, smart phone, tablet or Web sharing. Tiff is NOT for TV viewing via DVD player.
Q: What's the video conversion format you use?
A: We transfer your films to DVDs. Bayside Digital's DataDVDs contain a digital file perfect for your computer. You can edit your family's movies. These digital files work on Mac or PC, are encoded to preserve the quality of your home movies and work in major editing program or can be shared online.
DataDVDs are for editing or playing on your computer.
They do not play in a standard DVD player.
Q. What is VLC media player?
A. VideoLAN - Download official VLC media player for Windows
VLC for Windows. VLC is a free and open source cross-platform multimedia player and framework that plays most multimedia files as well as DVDs, Audio CDs, VCDs, and various streaming protocols.
Q: What type of photos and film do you transfer?
Q: How often do you communicate with me, once you receive my treasured photos?
Q: What is the turnaround time for photos to digital:
A: Orders are processed in the order that we received. It depends on the size of a project. For RUSH order there is $50.00 charge. We will give you estimated time to finish your special project. Minimum order is $100.00 (usually it's the case when there is unfortunately unexpected death in the family. TIP: best to get all your photos scanned asap. Let today be your January 1st!)
Q: Where is scanning and transfers done?
A. All work is done in New York.
Q: When is the best time to save my family's legacy?
A: We get many emergency photo transfer requests for a memorial service. Sadly, an unexpected family events are inevitable. We suggest to be prepared and get your collection professionally digitized. You never know how soon you might need them in digital format. It could be a very happy occasion as well: celebrations, milestones, weddings, digital scrapbooking, writing your memoir, just to name a few.
Also those involved in divorce or separation situations, having copies of photos and videos is the last thing you want to think about. How about one sibling having all the photos and the others not having access to due to various family situations?
We learned from people we talk to, they get upset by shabby work done at some stores, as their digitized photos had streaks. This wouldn't happen with us. We check the final files for quality, before handing your precious irreplaceable collection to you.
We often see our friends who post family photos scanned by regular scanners and we could see it's very low quality. Your family's photos deserve to be digitized professionally.
Q: How long would you keep the digitized media on file?
A: We would keep the scans on file for up to one month. In case of an emergency the client needs the files. After the 3 months, we would permanently delete the files from our temporary client archive.
Q: Will my family photos and videos remain safe and private? As well as my client information?
A: At Bayside Digital, we take keep our client's information as well as materials very confidential. We don't share or sell your media: it belong to YOU!
